Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, caring environment where they can learn, recover and build their future. Yet for many children in Ukraine, the consequences of war continue to affect their emotional well-being, education and everyday lives. Children living in family-type children’s homes and residential care institutions are among those who need sustained, comprehensive support to overcome these challenges and thrive.
To help address these needs, Ridni Foundation and WeWorld have joined forces to implement Rebuilding Childhoods: Integrated Support for Vulnerable Children in Kyiv, with the support of the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF).
The project, running from July 2026 to July 2027, aims to strengthen the psychosocial well-being, educational resilience and social inclusion of children living in family-type children’s homes and residential care institutions across Kyiv. It also invests in the adults who care for them every day by strengthening the capacities of foster parents, caregivers, institutional staff and child protection professionals.
What the project will deliver
The project combines direct support for children with capacity building for caregivers and professionals to create a more supportive and child-centred environment.
Children participating in the project will benefit from:
- individual and group psychosocial support;
- educational support to help overcome learning loss;
- art therapy, recreational and resilience-building activities;
- opportunities that promote inclusion, well-being and healthy development.
The project will also strengthen the capacities of foster parents, caregivers, institutional staff and child protection professionals through training, mentoring and practical tools that promote trauma-informed and child-centred approaches to care.
Overall, the project will support:
- 19 family-type children’s homes;
- 4 residential care institutions;
- approximately 355 children;
- foster parents and other caregivers;
- institutional staff;
- child protection professionals working across Kyiv.
