The “A City Caring for Children” residence has launched in Lviv, bringing together child protection and family support specialists from across Ukraine. The initiative is implemented by the Lviv Children’s Service, the School of Municipal Governance of Unbroken University, and Ridni Foundation.
The program began with informal networking, a tour of the Shevchenkivskyi Hai open-air museum, and traditional bogrács soup, after which participants moved on to explore the practical experience of the Lviv community. The primary focus of the sessions is building a system where children can grow up in safety, receive timely support, develop, and stay true to themselves. Participants discuss deinstitutionalization processes, the real needs of children, and the pivotal role of the community in shaping an effective system of care.
The site visit program covered several key municipal and social locations:
Bosco Vocational Education Center, where specialists learned about the center’s educational approaches, daily care practices, and core values.
Unbroken Mothers Center for Mother and Child, focused on comprehensive support for women with children.
Family-type children’s home (FTCH) led by foster mother Maryna Boronina, demonstrating a practical model for the development of family-based care.
Ridni Center for Social Support of Children and Families, where its director, Sister Yuliia, shared the history of the municipal institution, its transformation journey, and the values guiding their daily work with families.
The residence serves as an effective platform for open dialogue, rethinking challenges, and sharing best practices among communities to secure a safe future for every Ukrainian child.
