Today, more and more people are turning to chatbots for psychological advice or emotional support. But is artificial intelligence really capable of fully replacing a human professional? A new column by Iryna Ferko, Head of the Psychological Supervision Department at Ridni Foundation, for the NV publication is dedicated to this pressing issue.
AI is undoubtedly a convenient tool for quick support or finding basic self-regulation techniques. However, true therapy is a much deeper process that requires an understanding of context, empathy, and the ability to hold a therapeutic pause – something an algorithm is simply not programmed for.
Live human-to-human contact is about eye-to-eye contact, a smile, facial expressions, gestures, intonation, and emotional state. It is about the feeling of "I see you", "I feel you", "you are not alone". Pace, posture, the depth of an inhale and exhale, facial expressions – we unconsciously read, react to, or mirror all of this.
