Oleksandr Redchych lived in an institutional care facility for 22 years. There was little freedom and many violations of children’s rights, and when he tried to stand up for himself, he was sent to a psychiatric hospital. But despite everything, Oleksandr did not give up.
At the age of 26, he experienced family for the first time — a foster family took him in after he left the boarding school and gave him what he had been missing: support, care, and belief in his abilities. Oleksandr defended his legal capacity in court, works, is building his own life, and has even managed to buy a home.
In our new podcast, we talk to Oleksandr about his path to independence, the courage to start over, and how support can change your life.
The project is being implemented by the Ridni Foundation in partnership with UNICEF.
