What is mentorship?

Mentorship is a voluntary and unpaid activity by an adult aimed at providing a child with individual support, particularly in preparing for independent life. A mentor does not live with the child but interacts regularly and shares life experiences.

The main goal of mentorship is to help the child build trusting relationships, better adapt to adult life, and believe in their own self-worth.

It is a relationship that changes the lives of both the child and the mentor.

Why is mentorship important?

Children who grow up without a family environment almost always face the absence of a significant adult in their lives, leading to social isolation and low levels of adaptation after leaving institutional care. They often lack the psychological support necessary to develop essential life skills.

Mentorship steps in to provide the child with stable emotional support and builds readiness for independent living. This significantly increases the chances of successful integration into society. A mentor is a guide who helps the child become a strong and self-sufficient individual.
