The topic of loss is one of the most challenging aspects of parenting, especially during a time of war. Parents often seek to protect their children from pain by avoiding conversations about death; however, honesty and support are key to healthy grieving.

Iryna Ferko, Head of the Psychological Supervision Department at Ridni Foundation, authored an article for NV, outlining the steps and communication guidelines for discussing this topic with children of different ages.

“A child has the right to know the truth about their family. Our task as adults is not to hide the pain, but to be the pillar of support that helps the child through it without feeling alone,” says Iryna Ferko.
