Podcast “Finally, we met.” Episode 5. Behind the scenes of dreams: the reality of adopting young children. The story of the Safonov family.

Anna and Dmytro Safonov adopted two girls when they were only seven months old. The decision to bring children into their family came after the start of the full-scale invasion— a time when they most wanted to give someone love, security, and a future. Consequently, the babies from the orphanage felt for the first time what it means to be a family.

At first glance, their story seems ideal: two adorable children and a lot of warmth. However, behind this are difficult decisions, adaptation, fears, challenges, and the debunking of popular myths about adopting infants.

In the new episode of the podcast “Finally, we met,” we speak with Anna and Dmytro about which expectations are not met, why an infant is not “easier,” and how adoption changes not only the lives of children but also the adults.

The project is being implemented by the Ridni Foundation in partnership with UNICEF.
